How I built my own AI operating system
KIOS · AI agents · Oct 2026
KIOS is my personal AI operating system. It is not one chatbot, but several AI agents that work around the clock. I control them through Discord and Telegram. I write a message, and the work starts.
Behind it sits a central coordinator. It takes a task, splits it up and hands the parts to specialised agents. One builds, another checks the result, a third gives advice when a decision is open. The coordinator reviews what comes back and only reports what matters to me. The rest stays out of my chat.
KIOS also takes care of the boring infrastructure. It backs up servers and data automatically to my NAS and keeps an eye on my home network. I don't have to remember any of it. I look at the reports when something is off.
My principles
- The simplest solution first. Clever is not the same as robust.
- Nothing is reported as done without proof.
- Deleting things and changing live systems only with my OK.
What I learned
Clear rules beat clever prompts. A long, well-written prompt does not replace a short rule that says what an agent may and may not do. Agents need boundaries, and those boundaries have to be written down.
Control costs time and tokens. Every check takes effort, so I match the depth of the check to the risk. A typo in a note needs no second review. A change to a backup job or a deletion gets several.
KIOS also fails in ways I did not expect. That's fine. What matters is that a failure stays visible instead of going quiet.
Most of the rules I trust today were written after something broke. Each one is a small scar from an earlier mistake, and that is exactly why they hold up.

Wie ich mir ein KI-Betriebssystem gebaut habe
KIOS · KI-Agenten · Okt 2026
Was ich gelernt habe
Klare Regeln schlagen clevere Prompts.
